Founder and Managing Director

Erick, a total orphan, overcame hardship through football scholarships and vocational education. With support from a caring family, he transformed his life from desperation to hope and now leads a successful organization. Inspired by the kindness that changed his life, Erick is dedicated to giving hope and opportunities to others facing difficult circumstances.
Eden
Tour Consultant and Driver
(English, Luganda).
Eden left school early due to financial hardship and struggled to find opportunities. Through Literacy of Love, he gained skills in welding and driving, eventually becoming a small business owner and NorthStar contractor. Known for his talent, humor, and joyful personality, Eden brings energy and positivity wherever he goes.
Luwaga Huzaifa

For short, is quiet and disciplined. He struggled to survive the challenges of being independent and coming from a family that couldn’t provide his needs. He began working in Kampala, where he learned how to drive the complex and chaotic city streets. He works hard and knows how to traverse every corner of city life.
Wilbrod Walker

Wilz has neither parent and was raised by an aunt who struggled to care for him. He’s the first in his family to finish secondary school. Now, he’s in university! He studied photography and is finding a way to improve the lives of everyone in his family and future family.
Cari Matejka
Co-Founder, Communications, and International Reservations.
Cari is the founder and CEO of Literacy of Love, a nonprofit registered in both the United States and Uganda. Driven by a passion for empowering vulnerable children and communities, she founded NorthStar to create sustainable opportunities and independence for program graduates. Today, she works alongside those graduates as they build successful lives and create opportunities for others.
Literacy of Love
Literacy of Love supports vulnerable children and families through education, basic needs, school fees, and skills development. Its goal is to create a cycle of empowerment where graduates use their opportunities to help others and transform their communities. Through sponsorship and project development, supporters can help sustain this mission.
